Data Science Nigeria BootCamp


The bootcamp is an intensive, residential and all-expense paid knowledge retreat in a remote part of the city, where data scientist enthusiasts and experts are groomed in the latest tools of data science and machine learning; combining best practices from global industry leaders and academic researchers.

The bootccamp features international PhD-level Data scientists from at least 4 continents with proven result in algorithm and application development. The January, 2017 bootcamp had 10 PhD-level data scientists from 3 continents.

Intensive pre-qualification process

  • 151 participants qualified out of over a thousand applicants who participated in the prequalification exams on the IBM BigDataUniversity Data science coursework.

The October 2017 edition hands-on instruction on machine learning algorithms and statistics for Big Data shall be led by Dr. Sulaimon A. Afolabi, a leading Nigerian Data Scientist and Researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and 8 other international PhD-level Data scientists (practitioners and academia) dialling in via videoconferencing.

Dr. Afolabi currently ranks as No 22 out of 7,461 teams on the Kaggle Titanic: Machine Learning
